The tGW-712 CR bridges Modbus TCP hosts and serial Modbus RTU/ASCII devices, so a supervisory system on an Ethernet network can reach equipment that only has a serial interface. This variant provides one 5-wire RS-232 port on a male DB-9 connector, which keeps wiring simple for point-to-point connections.
Beyond simple protocol conversion, the gateway can be configured as a pair-connection, serial-bridge or serial-tunnel device, routing data over TCP/IP between two serial Modbus devices. A read-cache stores previous requests and responses in the module's memory buffer, returning repeated answers immediately to reduce traffic on the serial side and speed up TCP responses.
Power can be supplied over Ethernet using IEEE 802.3af Class 1 PoE from a compatible switch, or from a +12 ~ 48 VDC terminal block where no PoE is available. The unit is designed for low power consumption, rated at 0.07 A @ 24 VDC, and mounts on a DIN rail in a plastic housing.
