The ZT-2551 CR is a compact wireless converter that links serial RS-232 or RS-485 devices into an IEEE 802.15.4 ZigBee personal area network. It operates in the 2.4 GHz ISM band and is fully compliant with the ZigBee and ZigBee Pro (ZigBee 2007) specifications, so it can be integrated into a ZigBee network without changes to the serial device itself.
Engineers will value its routing function. The unit can act as a ZigBee router, passing data between parent and child nodes to extend transmission range and improve signal quality. Broadcast transmission supports redundant paths, while unicast transmission reduces network loading. A topology utility helps monitor and improve the network, and the RF output power is adjustable.
Configuration is handled through a Windows GUI utility, which allows settings to be chosen according to the application, including ZigBee variables such as the PAN ID. AES-128 encryption protects wireless traffic, and source identification is available for non-addressed device data. The plastic housing mounts on a DIN rail, and the unit is rated for an operating temperature of -25 ~ +75 °C.
