The GW-2222i is a Modbus TCP to RTU/ASCII gateway for connecting a Modbus TCP host to serial Modbus RTU or ASCII devices over Ethernet. It removes the cable length restrictions of legacy serial links, so existing serial instruments can be integrated into networked SCADA and supervisory systems without adding Ethernet capability to each device.
Two Ethernet ports allow daisy-chain wiring, which simplifies device placement and cuts switch infrastructure. The unit can also run in pair-connection, serial-bridge or serial-tunnel modes, routing data over TCP/IP between two serial Modbus devices. Power can come from PoE (IEEE 802.3af, Class 1) or a DC terminal block supplying +12 ~ 48 VDC.
A read-cache stores previous requests and responses, so repeated queries from multiple masters are answered immediately. This reduces load on the serial ports and improves response times and overall system stability. Configuration is handled through the built-in web server, which supports static IP or DHCP addressing.
