The EMP-9098-16 CR is a SoftPLC-based motion controller that uses EtherCAT as its main real-time fieldbus. It controls up to 16 axes through an integrated real-time EtherCAT master and a multi-axis motion kernel, with the motion engine and master running on a dedicated processor for time-deterministic operation.
Windows 10 IoT Enterprise runs alongside the PLC runtime, so PLC logic, motion control and Windows applications such as HMIs or data processing software can operate side by side. Programming interfaces and shared memory give Windows applications direct access to PLC data. This variant uses the Intel Atom E3950 CPU, with 8 GB DDR4 SDRAM and no expansion slots.
Engineers can program the controller in all five IEC 61131-3 languages and use PLCopen and CiA402 motion function blocks for single-axis and interpolated multi-axis movements. Modbus TCP/RTU connectivity lets the unit act as a Modbus/EtherCAT gateway, and the built-in OPC UA server supports connection to standard OPC UA clients.
