The I-7522A CR lets standard RS-232 devices sit on an RS-485 bus with their own device address. The unit strips the address from incoming commands, passes them to the local serial device and returns the response to the host, so legacy serial equipment can be integrated into an addressed multi-drop network without changing the device itself.
Unlike slave-type converters that depend on a host PC for every transaction, this master-type converter can be configured to work independently. It adds five dry-contact digital inputs and five open-collector digital outputs, with support for power-up and safe output values, dual-watchdog commands and real-time monitoring and control of the on-board I/O. Each RS-232 interface includes a 1 KB queue buffer.
The module is built around an 80188-compatible CPU at 40 MHz with 512 KB flash and 512 KB SRAM. It accepts a +10 to +30 VDC supply with reverse polarity protection, draws 2.0 W, and is designed for DIN-rail or wall mounting over an operating range of -25 to +75 °C.
