The PEX-D24 is a PCI Express x1 digital I/O board providing 24 buffered TTL input/output lines. The lines are organised as three 8-bit bidirectional ports, and the board emulates two industrial-standard 8255 PPI ports in Mode 0, so existing 8255-style programming carries over.
It is designed as a direct replacement for the PIO-D24 and PIO-D24U series, requiring no changes to software or drivers. Input/output response is approximately 2 μs (500 kHz maximum), and the digital outputs offer higher driving capability, with sink of 64 mA at 0.8 V and source of 32 mA at 2.0 V.
A 4-bit Card ID, set by an SMD switch, lets software identify each board when two or more are installed in the same computer. Four interrupt sources are also provided for event-driven designs.

- Upgrading existing PIO-D24 or PIO-D24U installations to PCI Express
- Digital I/O on PCs where several DAQ boards must be told apart in software
