The GW-2212i bridges Modbus TCP hosts and serial Modbus RTU/ASCII devices, so legacy serial equipment can be reached over an Ethernet network without the cable length limits of a direct serial connection. It supports Modbus TCP/UDP and Modbus RTU/ASCII in both master and slave roles, with up to 32 TCP masters per serial port.
Beyond protocol conversion, the unit can run as a serial bridge, serial tunnel or pair-connection, routing data over TCP/IP between two serial Modbus devices. A read-cache stores previous requests and responses so repeated polls to the same slave are answered immediately, reducing load on the serial port and improving response times. Two Ethernet ports allow daisy-chaining, and the module can be powered over PoE (IEEE 802.3af, Class 1) or from a DC terminal block.
The GW-2212i is configured through its built-in web server, which supports static IP or DHCP addressing and the serial port settings. A dual watchdog (CPU and host) is provided to keep the module running and recover from firmware faults or loss of communication with the host. It is DIN-rail mounted and carries RoHS compliance.
